What is TNEA?
TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is the single-window centralised counselling system for admission to B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Plan. / B.Des. and M.Tech. Integrated (5-year) programmes offered by government, government-aided, university departments, constituent colleges, and self-financing engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University and Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu.
- Conducting Authority: Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu
- Admission Basis: Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics — scaled to 200 marks
- NO entrance exam: TNEA does NOT require JEE, TANCET, or any other entrance test for B.E./B.Tech.
- Fully Online: Registration, document upload, choice filling, allotment, and confirmation — all at tneaonline.org
- One Physical Step: Certificate verification at a TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFC)
- Scale (2025): 2,95,134 registered candidates | 1,72,388 seats | 450+ colleges | 117 branch codes
What TNEA Does NOT Cover
- Deemed Universities — VIT, SRM (main campus), Amrita, Saveetha, Shiv Nadar, Vel Tech Deemed, Karunya — conduct their own independent admissions
- NITs / IITs / IIITs — through JEE Main / Advanced
- TANCET — only for M.E./M.Tech. postgraduate admissions, NOT for B.E./B.Tech.
- Vocational counselling — runs in parallel as a completely separate stream (outside this guide's scope)
