4 Eligibility Conditions (ALL must be satisfied)

1. Nativity / Origin — Eight Eligible Categories

The 2026 brochure recognises eight nativity categories. Nativity is defined through schooling in Classes 8 to 12 (VIII–XII) in a Tamil Nadu school — not just Classes 11 and 12.

5 Sons / daughters of All India Service (TN cadre) officers Self-declaration; eligible under OC
6 Other-state candidates who studied Classes 8–12 in a TN school No nativity certificate needed
7 Sri Lankan Tamil Refugees who studied in TN Identification Certificate from Headquarters Tahsildar (G.O. (St) 172 HE (J2) dt. 29.06.2010); if not refugee-camp-registered, also passport + visa + police-station letter
8 OCI / PIO cardholders who are TN natives Eligible under Open Category from AY 2023–24 onwards (G.O. effective). Not applicable to those born abroad on or after 04.03.2021

⚠️ Community certificates from other states are NOT recognised for TNEA reservation purposes — even if the candidate qualifies under Cat. 6.

2. Qualifying Exam Boards Accepted

Tamil Nadu State Board (HSC), CBSE, ICSE/ISC, all State Boards of India, NIOS (with conditions), IB, IGCSE.

Private candidates / Open School students: Generally NOT eligible unless a specific government school is the institution of study.

3. Compulsory Subjects

Must have studied and passed all three: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (separate papers).
- B.Arch.: Physics, Chemistry, and Maths OR Biology; NATA or JEE Paper 2 score required additionally.
- Business Mathematics does NOT substitute for Mathematics.

4. Minimum Marks (PCM Aggregate — Class 12)

Special Branch Requirements

Mining Engineering: 60% in PCM. Cannot be allotted to candidates with any disability category.

Marine Engineering: 60% in PCM plus all four:
- IMU-CET qualified (compulsory) — IMU-HQ/C/12/18/01/CET-2022 dt. 07.03.2022
- Maximum age 25 years as on date of admission
- Minimum height 157 cm
- Normal colour vision (eyesight standards) per DGS Notification No. II.TR(21)97 dt. 03.10.2002

Scope note: This portal covers B.E. / B.Tech only. B.Arch admissions run on a separate official subdomain at barch.tneaonline.org with its own brochure, schedule, and a compulsory NATA / JEE Paper-2 requirement. Vocational stream, Differently-Abled, Ex-Servicemen, and Sports quotas are also out of scope here — see the Special Reservations summary page for an at-a-glance overview, and consult the official 2026 brochure for full rules.

Age: Minimum 17 years as of 31 December of the admission year. No maximum age limit.


Documents — Master Checklist

For ALL Candidates

  1. Class 12 Mark Sheet (original + photocopy)
  2. Class 12 Transfer Certificate (TC)
  3. Class 10 Mark Sheet (for date of birth proof)
  4. Community Certificate — issued by Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) or higher
  5. Nativity Certificate OR Aadhaar Card with Tamil Nadu address
  6. 6 passport-size photographs

Category-specific Documents

  1. First Generation Graduate: Tahsildar income certificate ≤ ₹2.5 lakh/year + Affidavit (G.O. (st) 85 HE (J2) dt. 16.04.2010)
  2. 7.5% Govt. School: Study certificate from school head (Classes 6–12 in TN Govt. school) in DoTE prescribed format. Pre-2026 HSC pass-outs applying under 7.5% must additionally produce a Bonafide Certificate from the school.
  3. BC / BCM / MBC / DNC: RDO-level community certificate (Tahsildar-issued NOT accepted for reservation claim)
  4. SC / SCA / ST: RDO or Sub-Collector level certificate; no creamy layer
  5. EMIS Number (கல்வி மேலாண்மைத் தகவல் மைய எண்) — required at registration; available from your school
  6. Demand Draft (only if paying at TFC counter — not online): drawn in favour of "THE SECRETARY, TNEA, CHENNAI – 25"
  7. Sri Lankan Tamil refugees: Identification Certificate from HQ Tahsildar (G.O. (St) 172/2010); if not registered in a refugee camp, also passport + visa + police-station letter

⚠️ Improvement exam marks are NOT considered. Per G.O. No. 184 HE (J2) dt. 09.06.2005 + G.O. (st) 143 HE (J2) dt. 06.05.2008, only first-attempt original marks are used for both eligibility and rank calculation for candidates from 2006 onwards.

⚠️ Critical: BC/MBC certificates must be from RDO level or higher. Tahsildar-issued certificates are rejected for reservation purposes. Get the correct certificate early.

Document Upload — Format & Size Limits (Official)

"You can upload all the required certificates and documents within a minimum size of 150 KB and maximum size of 1 MB each. Similarly, for photo and signature the minimum size is 20 KB and maximum size is 50 KB each." — Official Registration Instructions, DoTE.
