If You Were Allotted a Seat — You Have 6 Options
After tentative allotment is released, every student who received an allotment must choose one of these 6 options within the confirmation deadline.
Option 1 — Accept and Join (Confirm)
- What you do: Pay fee at TFC; submit documents
- What happens: Your seat is permanently confirmed. You are done with counselling.
- When to use: You are happy with the allotment and don't want a better seat.
- Risk: None. Seat is secured.
Option 2 — Accept and Upward Movement
- What you do: Pay fee at TFC; confirm the current seat tentatively
- What happens: Your current seat is held. In Upward Movement, the system tries to upgrade you to a higher-preferred choice. If upgrade is available → automatic upgrade. If not → you keep your current seat.
- When to use: You are okay with the allotment but prefer a higher choice if available. Safest upgrade option.
- Risk: None. You always have a seat either way.
- Fee: Pay now at TFC (₹5,000 OC/BC/MBC; ₹1,000 SC/SCA/ST)
Option 3 — Decline and Upward Movement
- What you do: Click decline; opt for upward movement; NO fee paid yet
- What happens: You decline the current allotment but wait for Upward Movement. If a better choice is available → allotted and you must pay. If nothing better → you move to the NEXT round (not lost from counselling).
- When to use: You dislike the current allotment and are willing to risk waiting for something better.
- Risk: If Upward Movement also gives nothing → you participate in the next round without a confirmed seat.
Option 4 — Decline and Continue to Next Round
- What you do: Click decline; opt for next round
- What happens: Your allotment is cancelled. You participate in the next round with all seats available.
- When to use: You believe you can get something much better in Round 2 or 3.
- Risk: Your current seat is gone permanently. If Round 2/3 gives nothing, you may go without a seat.
Option 5 — Decline and Exit (Withdraw from Counselling)
- What you do: Click decline + exit
- What happens: You are permanently removed from TNEA counselling for that year. No further participation.
- When to use: You have decided to pursue a different institution/path entirely.
- Risk: Irreversible. Cannot re-enter TNEA that year.
Option 6 — No Action (Missed Deadline)
- What happens: Your allotment is automatically cancelled. You lose the allotted seat. You are NOT moved to the next round — you are effectively removed from active counselling.
- This is the worst outcome. Missing the confirmation deadline is treated as "Decline and Exit."
- Never miss the deadline. Set multiple reminders.
